Last Saturday at the Hack Italy in Milan hordes of Italian developers have gathered up and given 12 hours time to hack a group of web apps, namely Nokia OVI maps, Microsoft, Audiobox.fm, Play.me, Spreaker and Beintoo.
Our team with CTO Giovanni Cappellotto and friend Francesco Tartaggia (developer at H-Umus) built Thounds Map by hacking the OVI maps and Nokia just loved it so much they assigned us the first prize, a stunning N8 device.
Thounds Map does exactly what it’s in the name, it geolocalizes and streams music sketches on the atlas, and you can have a visual impact of where there is more music inspiration around you: Thounds Map:http://maps.thounds.com
Have you ever wanted to hack Thounds music?
Don’t miss the chance of being at the first Hack Italy event then, running in Milan on the 5th February 2011.
The event is sponsored by Microsoft, Nokia, Dada, 3Scale, Git Enterprise and Top-Ix and will give developers a unique opportunity to hack Italian apps in a 12h challenge.
The challenge:
A group of apps offer their API’s to deliver hacks and mashups (beside Thounds this will include Play.me, Microsoft, audiobox.fm, MusiXmatch, Spreaker, OVI Maps by Nokia, etc)
Ideas for your hack:
If you don’t know where to begin, we at Thounds would appreciate some of the following:
a map with geolocalization for Thounds tracks (i.e. mashup with Bing Maps or OVI maps)
Hack Italy information:
Hack Italy at the Blend Tower, Piazza IV Novembre, 7 – Milan. Saturday 5th February 2011 – Begins at 8:30am. http://hackitaly.org/
Discover all the music on Thounds by just tuning in our new radio on http://thounds.fm!
Thounds radio is the first app since our public API release, it is a radio tuner with genre tags instead of frequencies, it’s never been easier to listen to original Hip Hop beats, Heavy Metal riffs, acoustic sessions and rock melodies.
Hurry up, you have three extra days to win the contest by Think Tank and enter the compilation!
All you have to do is playing your own music on a given track (you can choose between Tao and The Mirrors stems available here) and get as many “likes” as possible.
The top three most liked thounds will get to the final stageand submitted to the jury lined up by the Think Tank and Thounds panels.
The compilation introduces you to 11 tracks: one from the Think Tank contest and the other ten have already been selected by a panel artists Curt Smith (Tears for fears), Max Casacci (Subsonica), Jimmy Destri (Blondie), Alberto Ferrari (Verdena), Roger O’Donnell (The Cure), Luca Bergia (Marlene Kuntz), Morgan Fisher (Mott the Hoople), …
Two months ago we browsed through the Entertainment category in the Facebook app gallery, and found too many apps so we restricted search by keyword “music” to a reasonable 200 matches.
Surprising how none of this lot was about composing and creating music at all, so we requested a few friends for a draft from our API, we’ve been submitted a great layout idea (thank you Luca) and then we’ve been busy developing until last weekend. YUIO is a simple sequencer and sampler, you will be able to record short sounds (or just use the default beats) to create boom box tunes to share.
A few days ago we asked our community to record their own very special thound for the anniversary of John Lennon birthday, and we have then received so many good tunes we want to share.
We just opened a new section on thounds.com: Thounds Artists!
Showing all musicians we’ve been meeting, you can hear what they think about music collaborations and Thounds itself.
Be sure to check this new section out, there are more to come and some artists played some thound for you too.
